The cleaning method depends on the surface, the contamination and how the area is used. Resin floors, high-level dust and machine sumps each need different checks and controls.
Surface: installed material, coating and manufacturer care instructions.
Contamination: the residue present, its process source and any cleaning products already in use.
Operating area: production activity, sensitive equipment and access restrictions.
Required result: appearance, hygiene standard or another site-defined performance check.
Technical sources used in this library
The library uses HSE and GOV.UK guidance alongside manufacturer information for named flooring systems. Manufacturer guidance applies to the product or system it describes. Safety and regulatory guidance still has to be read in the context of the actual process, site and jurisdiction.
Cleaning during an occupied shift can create slip, access and interaction risks for people nearby. The cleaning plan has to account for the work area and any routes that must remain in use.
Cleaning products can leave residue that contributes to a persistent floor problem. If a floor remains slippery or marked, the detergent, application method and floor finish should all be checked.
If a floor remains slippery after cleaning, the contamination, floor condition and cleaning method need to be reviewed. Appearance alone does not establish the cause.
Wet contamination can create a slip risk, but it may come from a spill, process water, cleaning residue or another source. The floor finish and operating conditions help determine the appropriate response.
